"Design is to design a design to produce a design."

LuidiA - A meeting solutions company
In my current position at Luidia, I serve as Creative Director and one-man art department, responsible for all design needs for the product and brand.
Luidia Equil Smartpen 2 Ad & Packaging Art - 3D Package Prototype Renders
Process is key
To plan out the execution, we start lightweight: we begin with sketches to hone in on the visual design; then we turn the ideas into prototypes; finally, we produce the finished packaging for units on display in stores like Target and Best Buy. Each step relies on an iterative, and feedback-driven process.
Equil Smartpen - Production Unit
At Luidia, we produced a creative marketing video to promote the eBeam Smartmarker product via YouTube ads. For this project, I acted as the client-side creative director, ensuring image execution, message clarity, and final edit quality while also responsible for executing on minor edits in-house.

VR Meeting solutions project - Conference Room Prototype
While working at Luidia, I became interested in VR + AR and collaborated with an engineer on an idea to bring VR technology to the meeting solution space. This is a prototype for that project that simulates the exact conference room at Luidia's San Jose office.

Using Blender, Unity, and the HTC Vive, I created an exact replica of Luidia's conference room for pitch and demo purposes.

These are reference + texture photos, measurements, and environment notes used in the creation of the 3D environment. For the purpose of best-approximating reality, we paid careful attention to size, object positioning, materials, and lighting.

A good friend is the founder of an independent studio developing MageWorks, an educational VR game available for the Vive and Oculus Rift. I've joined the project to create a number of 3D assets and illustrative Key Art work for the game.
MageWorks was well underway when I was brought on, but needed more custom objects to populate the environment. These assets are environment objects built to populate the setting to enhance the exploratory experience. Some objects serve as passive environment details, and others as interactive (and destructible!) assets.

MageWorks - Initial Nature Asset Sketches
We're a small team and work collaboratively: after initial ideation, environment research, and collective alignment, we draft initial sketches either digitally or with pencil and paper; all modeling is done in Blender; texturing is achieved using a combination of Blender, Photoshop and 3D Coat. Throughout the process, we hold regular retrospectives to assess progress and direction.

MageWorks needed key art illustrations that could also be used for marketing purposes. We leveraged my experience with matte painting + digital illustration to create pieces that would spark the viewers' imagination.

Vidi VR - A mobile VR Stereoscopic video sharing platform
One of my favorite ways to stay up on trends in technology is through involvement in the VR community in San Francisco. One of the projects that emerged from this network is with Vidi VR, building an "Instagram" sharing platform for stereoscopic videos. Here's my work on UI/UX + 3D design.

Vidi VR = Skybox Exploration
The team had limited experience developing for 3D and we specifically struggled with background environments. The most successful solution we reached was born out experimentation with skyboxes, which we found helped the user experience a wider universe and feel more immersed within the app.

Here are a few extra examples of technique exploration and practice exercises I do to keep up with fundamental art skills and new technology:
